Hi everyone

Today I am finally able to introduce you to Ever Eden. Ever Eden is a fashion jewelry collection I designed in collaboration with Glamhouse.com... It’s a project that I’ve been working on for a while and am so proud to present to you all today. : Here's a video explaining the collection and then keep reading to learn more about the line and take a look at the first piece we are unveiling...

About Ever Eden

Ever Eden is a fashion jewelry line guided by the allure of a symphony beheld in the kingdom of heaven on earth. The Ever Eden mandorla logo entrusts an ancient symbol of two overlapping circles symbolic of a universe where heaven and earth unite. The initial Ever Eden collection finds inspiration in the story of Saint Joan of Arc. 

In the 15th century a brave peasant daughter of a shepherd became a soldier and lead the French army into victory. Joan of Arc professed to bear God’s message and at the age of 16 she embarked on a mission to stand before French King Charles VII and declare it her destiny to lead the King’s army. Convinced of her divine crusade the King armored Joan and presented her with a large army to lead. Three years later the English captured Joan and burnt her at the stake. Pope Benedict XV canonized Saint Joan of Arc on May 16 1920. 

The Ever Eden line is divided into two categories - Sanctuary and Knight. The Sanctuary pieces represent Joan’s faith and spirit and are inspired by rose windows on churches and the mandorla symbol. The armory inspired Knight collection personify Joan’s bravery and strength.

With it all the time...gotta clean it!

Hi everyone

These days our phones go everywhere with us – the bedroom the bathroom the classroom the nightclub the grocery store the gym and just about everywhere else. Think about all those places for a minute… and then think about how these phones aren’t just attached to our wrists; they’re attached to our faces. Shudders

Because of all of the environments and germs that they are exposed to our phones accumulate a lot of germs. Add in the fact that we use our hands to operate them and it’s one big nasty germfest. Now think about how every time you talk on one of them you’re pressing these substances against your beautiful delicate skin. Unless you’re using an earpiece or speaker you’ve basically just applied a film of filth on your face. Yuck!

It’s obvious then that phones can pose a very real problem for your skin. This isn’t news to anyone but it’s a really good reminder… Our parents and grandparents probably never thought to associate phone-care with skincare! Now though you gotta. Here are some tips on how to wipe that baby down and help reduce breakouts on your face:

• Before you do anything it’s safest to turn off your phone remove any case and take out the battery if you can. Do your research and check out what the manufacturer recommends. The Internet is a gold mine too! Here’s a useful article with some more info.
• If your phone has buttons you can use a dry q-tip to first get any dust out from in between the buttons.
• If you have a plastic phone backing and/or a screen protector on the front of your phone you can use alcohol or a disinfectant on a soft cloth to gently wipe it down. Use as little as possible and check up on what’s recommended for your model beforehand. Apple actually recommends that you just use a lint-free cloth to remove any oils and substances on the surface.

Look for mellow tones of the shade in apricot tangerine peach or salmon if orange is simply too overwhelming for your skin tone. You'll be pleasantly surprised how much this warm shade blends right in.
  
  
• Other uses: For help in temporarily fading away blue-green veins and tattoos mix an orange corrector with a little of your regular concealer.

Hi everyone

We all know how important it is to clean your makeup brushes but one thing that you don’t hear about quite as much is the importance of cleaning your actual makeup itself. Makeup products can accumulate germs and bacteria that transfer back onto you with each application. These can cause acne eye infections lip problems and more so it’s really really smart to make sure that every item in your beauty collection is always nice neat and sanitary. Remember you’re putting this stuff near your eyes and mouths!

Spray mist makeup cleaners work really great and are easy to use. It’s a faster process than brush cleaning and every bit as important.

Hi everyone

Each day it's getting a little sunnier and little warmer outside. It's nice to spend this time outdoors and while it's also nice to get a little Vitamin D for your skin from Mr. Sun what's not nice are those painful sunburns you're often left with as souvenirs.

Sunburns can be annoying painful and peel-y and once you have one they tend to be hard to forget about until they fade away. Your skin needs a little TLC when it's burned. Here are some of my sunburn soothing tips to help out when your golden glow is more of rosy red...

1. Wear loose clothing. Your skin is trying to breathe and heal when it's burned and your layers of skin need to be able to peel and rejuvenate with ease. Wearing constrictive clothing is both uncomfortable and counter-productive to the healing process.
2. Drink tons of water. You need to hydrate extra well to compensate for the dryness in your skin.
3. Aloe aloe aloe. Aloe is your best friend when you're burned! It's a super soother that you can apply for both instant and long-term burn relief.

There are a lot of different ways that people like to use aloe. You can use it alone or blended with other beneficial ingredients. Click here for a cool idea literally! that involves the freezing of aloe in ice cube trays and below is a DIY soothing concoction that uses some coconut oil!

Ingredients:

• 3-4 in piece off an aloe vera plant sliced in half
• 1 Tbsp coconut oil in liquid form
• 1/2 – 1 tsp raw honey or propolis

Directions:

1. Apply the three ingredients as separate layers; first apply the aloe. Next apply the coconut oil and finally apply the honey or propolis.
2. Wear the mixture to bed and wake up to much happier skin!

Think of your burn as your skin asking--or yelling at--you to please wear more sunscreen and be more careful with your time spent catching rays!

Hi everyone

Have any of you ever tried Egyptian Magic? It’s an all-natural all-over cream that’s actually more of a jelly. It’s made of olive oil bees wax honey bee pollen royal jelly and bee propolis which a sticky substance that bees collect to use to seal up their hives. It’s really really soothing and moisturizing and lately I’ve been all about it! You rub it together between your palms to warm it up and make it easier to apply before putting on your skin. This gives it a smoother more malleable texture - in the tub itself it’s a little more wax-y. Because it’s pretty thick I would recommend using this only at night... it would take a long time to absorb if you planned to wear it under clothing or makeup during the daytime it’s for face and body!.

Most people associate moisturizing your skin with the winter but it’s so important in the spring and summer months too! Your skin gets tougher and dryer the more exposed to the sun it is so I always love finding new ways to moisturize this time of year too. This will also help retain water retention in your skin so that when you wake up your skin will look more hydrated and healthy.

I’m new to this product but so far I like it. I’m curious to know how many of you are using  it or have used it before too?

Hi everyone

The dangers of toxins and nail polish is a topic that’s come up in beauty news more and more recently. It’s a debate that changes all the time - sometimes we’re told there’s nothing to be worried about other times we’re told that we should all be very afraid.

I don't know everything that there is to know on this subject and the truth is it's always changing as newer and better polish formulas are developed. But what I do know is that nail polishes and the nail polish industry have always dealt with toxins since the beginning so it’s nothing really new. I think that because more and more people are starting to do their nails at home they’re starting to realize that a lot of these nail polishes are toxic when they just weren't aware before. This wasn't as talked about in the 90s because people would go in get their nails done and leave; they weren’t messing around with big collections of nail polishes at home like they are today.

The truth is if you’re doing anything with varnishes it’s going to require certain chemicals. No matter what formula you use you should always try to protect yourself as best you can. So if you're going to do your nails at home I recommend that you wear a mask to protect your nose face and lungs from breathing in all of the toxins. Salon manicurists always wear these masks so why not be cautious and wear them too?

So that’s what I recommend; just wear a mask and do everything in moderation. Don’t paint your nails 24/7; just do them once every other day if you’re someone that has to do them frequently. And until we know more just wearing a mask can help shield yourself from some of the toxins.

Hi everyone

Foundation brushes are some of the easiest brushes to buy because some of the best foundation are actually synthetic!

If you’re using anything with liquid it’s actually best to use synthetic fibers. That’s because the brush follicles on a synthetic brush are not going to absorb the fluid so it’s not going to put any of the product to waste. This is opposite for when you’re dealing with pigment; then you need the brushes to pick up the pigments and that’s why you need the holes in the hair. But with liquids it’s actually better to use synthetic for a really nice even coverage. Nylon brushes are really good for this.

A stippling brush is really good the filbert brush which is the regular foundation brush that makes a sea curve is really nice and sponges are good too. However if I were to use any out of all of them I would just use a standard foundation brush because it’s the most versatile. Sometimes it can be hard to apply with a stippling brush because you don’t have as much control over the amount of foundation you're working with but with a foundation brush you do.

It’s kind of like a painting brush and that’s why painters still use like a regular painting brush after all these years...it’s something that's been developed for so long and works the best.

My Don't Go There Eyeshadow Color

Hi everyone

I've been doing a lot of traveling lately and while it's incredibly fun and rewarding it can definitely wear a body out! This photo was taken after getting into New York City at 1AM from New Zealand and then waking up at 5AM the following morning… X_X

There was no time to sleep though so I opted for some eye patches and espresso instead. I've gotten so many questions about the eye patches since posting this photo so I thought I'd share a little more about them today. : They are a Japanese product from Biore - here's a photo of the pack:

They're great! The self adhesive eye masks reduces bags and puffiness. I use these in the early mornings when my eyes are extra puffy and within 15 minutes the puffiness is gone! Coffee scrub is another great wake-me-upper for your skin. It helps reduce puffiness too by removing excess water from the skin. And let's be honest - on those mornings when you're extra sleepy more coffee always sounds like a great idea!

How many of you have prom coming up? Or already had it? Since prom is on a lot of people’s minds right now and because it’s Rewind Wednesday I thought I’d take a break from telling you how YOU can do your makeup for prom and instead share a little bit about how I did mine… time travel time!

Believe it or not I actually wore my makeup really really simple to prom. I just had eyeliner fake lashes a little lip gloss and that’s it…and maybe powder on my face. Just kept it really simple. Remember we didn’t have YouTube back then. So because we had no one to show us we really didn’t know how to do our makeup. I feel like a lot of girls today have really amazing-looking makeup looks and a lot of that is because they have so many different tutorials websites and other outlets that they can learn from. My friends and I didn’t have those resources so we stuck to what we knew and my looks were always really simple.

For special evening events or a night on the town false eyelash strips in lieu of individual lashes provide glitz and eye-popping power to make the time and effort worth it. Armed with a few cool tricks up your sleeve you can easily blend them in with your natural lashes so they don't look overly obvious. Celebrity makeup artist and Vanitymark Cosmetics founder Brett Freedman offers a few ways to make the whole false eyelash strip application go more smoothly.

1. Cut the strip lashes so they are as long as the length between the center of your eye to the outer corner. "Remember it's all about blending your inner lash line lashes with the faux" Freedman explains. Avoid starting too close to your inner eye because it's "a dead giveaway and difficult to glue down in that naturally sparser area."
    
2. Spread a thin line of glue along the thread and blow on it a little to allow the glue to become a little dry and tacky.

3. Use your fingers to apply the fake lash to the outer corner of your lash line and not your lid. Then use tweezers to press the strip down securely along the lash line. If you are hesitant Freedman promises it gets better with practice. "It's like riding a bike" he explains adding "Once you do it a few times it's way easier."
    
4. Hold down both edges of the false lash for a few minutes until the glue dries to lock them in place.
    
5. To finish do a quick pump with an eyelash curler and top off with a few coats of mascara to blend the natural and faux lashes together.

3. You'll notice that you have a few options along the righthand side of the page. Click "Add a New Photo Album" to begin:


4. Type in your desired album title and description and click "Submit":


5. Now the fun part! Click the "SELECT FILE" button and start choosing the photos from your computer that you wish to upload. You can choose as many as you like!


6. Once you’ve selected your photos click "UPLOAD FILE":


7. When the photos have uploaded they will appear on your profile like so:

Hi everyone

There are some key differences between synthetic and authentic hair makeup brushes not just in terms of where the hair originates but in terms of how the hair functions. It’s a really fascinating topic and one that I’ve spent a lot of time working on lately. So in this Beauty School post I want to put all ethical debates on the subject aside and focus strictly on the fundamental difference between these two different kinds of brush hairs because I think it’s something that not a lot of people know about.

The main difference between a brush made with synthetic hair and a brush made with real hair is its ability to pick up pigment. Brushes made with real authentic hair pick up pigment and distribute it in fewer motions than brushes made with synthetic hair. That’s because the hair follicle of an actual living thing has tiny little porous holes in it. So when you have a bunch of these hairs brought together and you try to pick up a powder or a substance the tiny porous holes can actually hold onto and cling onto the pigment. It just picks it up that much better because there are these little spaces where it can be absorbed. Then once you apply it it kind of shakes off of the bristles. 

But when you’re dealing with synthetic hairs there are no porous holes at all; it’s just one long slippery strand and that’s it - that’s all you have. So from an artistic stance it can actually be harder to work with synthetic brushes than authentic hair brushes. It’s a touchy subject to talk about but also really interesting and important to know.

Matte nail polish is a great way to subdue your nail color. For instance say you want to wear a bright neon color but are concerned that the look is “too much” for your work or school environment. Adding a matte top coat to mattify the texture can actually quiet down the loudness of the color.

It’s not a look that’s for everyone but it’s great for those who want to have that fun pop of color but don’t want anything too crazy. High gloss looks can sometimes draw too much attention or look too flashy so a matte texture is a great way to add sophistication to any color. It can also make a glitter manicure more age-appropriate. With a variety of matte top coats on the market now four of which are in the collage at the top it’s an easy effect to add to a manicure if you need to tone it down in a hurry but don’t want to lose the polished look of your nails.

You’ve probably noticed from my photos and other Accessorized posts that I like to wear a lot of bold jewelry around my hands and that most of the time this jewelry happens to be gold.

The reason why I like gold jewelry is because I just think gold is a really elegant color. Silver can be really beautiful too but there’s something very elegant and very exquisite about the color gold. Also it really does brighten the skin and the warmth of the color is flattering on all skin tones. Sometimes its counterpart silver can be a little too cooling and if it’s tarnished it doesn’t look as nice. But gold even when it’s tarnished has a timeless appeal to it. There’s something about aged-looking gold that’s quite distinguished rather than aged-looking silver.

Hi everyone

The reason why I really don’t like this one is obvious - it just looks ridiculous. No one wants a mismatched face but it happens. In this situation your makeup tends to look fine in natural lighting but then when you take photos things are suddenly very wrong. A lot of girls that this happens to don’t even realize it until afterwards when they log onto their Facebooks and they look at their tagged photos and then they’re like who is this mess?!

There are a few reasons why this happens. First off the powder that they’re using might be mineral makeup so it has natural SPF in it. And a lot of the times this mineral makeup reflects light very easily. So when you take a photo and the flash goes off suddenly that’s all you’re seeing - just this big reflection of powder. Secondly they might be over-powdering and putting way too much on when they only need to blot just a little bit around the places where their face tends to get oily. Another reason might be that they are using a silica-based powder which is very white and very pigmented. Silica-based powders will also reflect light.

It’s a bummer because these products absorb oil so well which is why when you see this happen to celebrities it’s most likely that they used a silica-based product in the hopes of keeping their oil in check throughout the night. Add to that the fact that a lot of people apply too much and you’ve got a flour powder mess.

My tip for fixing this problem is simply to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Before you go out head into the bathroom turn off the lights and take a photo of your face with a flash camera. This will expose any of your excess powder and you’ll be able to fix it before heading out the door and avoid looking like a mess!

Fresh-looking makeup will never go out of style. It's a look that you will never regret and can always fall back on so mastering the routine and being able to do it in a hurry comes in very handy sometimes! Since spring equals "fresh" in my mind for this Rewind Wednesday post I'm sharing my tutorial for fresh-faced makeup. The routine in this video only took me five minutes TOPS to create. Enjoy!

This look should be youthful effortless and quick to complete. It's all about minimal eye makeup and giving your lips and skin the attention.

The manicure is called “bubble nails” because it gives nails a cool bubbly effect like stone or marble. We chose it because it’s got an edgy look to it and they wanted to match my tough-looking dress with tough-looking nails! It ended up being the perfect match. I actually still have it on right now because it's a gel manicure and those things last forever!

How to Pack for a Work Trip

In life there are very few quick fixes and even less so with hair which can be notoriously prone to damage and breakage. Fortunately there are a few things you can do to get your hair looking and feeling better right away. Check out five easy solutions below.

1. Throw in the towel

Towels are great for absorbing moisture but they can be a little too effective when it comes to delicate strands. Instead of the towel you use on your body wrap your hair up in an old t-shirt. It will still soak up excess moisture but it won't leave your hair dehydrated.

2. Get boared

Boar bristle brushes may seem old-fashioned but they're a gentle solution for keeping hair in check. They make hair look shinier because they help evenly distribute oil from root to tip and they're especially wonderful for damaged strands that need a milder touch.

3. Go to the plait

Braiding isn't just fashionable it's also an unexpected way to protect your hair while sleeping. Because of the interweaving there's less pressure on individual strands which can result in less breakage — and tangling too.

4. Dry out

Hair is more vulnerable to breakage when it's wet especially if it's not detangled with a wide-tooth comb. To prevent damage while styling though either let your hair dry naturally and then brush or flat iron it or finger dry it with a blow dryer and then use your brush to shape it once most of the moisture is out.

5. Smooth things under

Most of us sleep on cotton pillowcases but they absorb moisture from hair and skin and the texture can also lead to more knots. For better hair every time you wake up silk or satin pillowcases are the way to go. They're not nearly as absorbent and their smooth surfaces keep hair tangle-free.

Hi everyone

Invisible eyebrows are definitely a weird brow trend but how about eyebrow tattoos?

Permanent and semi-permanent brow tattoos are becoming more and more well-known brow maintenance procedures. Think permanent makeup more so than a tattoo that you would see anywhere else on the body. The photo below is an example of a finished brow tattoo look from Browhaus which does a popular "Brow Resurrection" procedure.

The benefits of getting your brows tattooed are that they would help with any pigmentation issues and would fill in any gaps or sparse places. Some of the downsides are that the ink color would fade over time it isn't cheap and it's a tattoo - you can't remove it with eye makeup remover if you change your mind.

I don't know too much about them but I like to alter my eyebrow shape for various looks so this idea probably isn't for me. If you were to go through with this you'd have to be pretty set with what you wanted not only in terms of your eyebrow shape size and arch but also in terms of the hair on the top of your head... You wouldn't want to commit to a crazy dark color and then decide to color your hair something radically different!

Hi everyone

Another big beauty pet peeve of mine is too much blush. I just think it kind of overwhelms the face and it looks cheap. It's hard though because there’s a fine line between rosy doll-like blush and too much blush. When you have too much on your whole face gets red and it gets a really forced flush. Overall it just looks really fake and no one wants to look fake!

I think there are two main reasons why a lot of girls make this mistake. One they’re not using the right brush so they’re over-applying and over-powdering their faces without realizing it and then maybe they’re just leaving without checking. Or two their blush and/or brush aren’t very good quality so they feel like they have to apply more and more to get the color they want.

This one’s also tricky because when you’re doing a gradual build with your blush you sometimes tend to forget how much you’ve already put on. You’re just applying and applying and waiting to see color and when you finally do it’s bright and it’s crazy.

The easiest way to fix this and this will even happen to me sometimes when I’m applying makeup on the go and I forgot to clean the blush brush that I have with me is to add another layer of face setting powder not translucent but actual powder to your face. This will help remove and cover up a bit of the extra blush.

Today's a big one you guys... not only is it the official launch of FAWN but it’s also my 25th birthday!!! O_O

I’m typically not one to throw a celebration for my birthday--I think I’ve spent most of my birthdays up till now just at home with the fam super low-key--but I figured if there ever were a night to go all out it's for number 25. And we are definitely going all out. My birthday party and the official launch party for FAWN are one in the same this evening. You could say it’s a celebration of two very important milestones in my life. :

My New Haircut!

Hi everyone

Neon is such a fun color trend these days and one way to incorporate it into your look is through your eye makeup! This isn’t the first time that neon has been a hit with cosmetics - remember how popular neon nails were last year? Now it seems the colors have worked their way up to the face and while lips are also seeing some bright colors right now it’s the eyes that are the most exciting to me. From highlighter yellow to tangerine orange neon eyeliner and eyeshadow is more prevalent than ever.

It’s a bold look but it can also be a beautiful one too. It looks best with the rest of the makeup is kept to a minimum and the application is precise. I think it’s really energetic and striking when done correctly--definitely not crazy-looking like you would think. Do you agree?

Hi everyone

If you've ever gone shopping for an eyeliner brush you've probably noticed what a wide variety there are to choose from. There are brushes for liquid gel and powder liner. Some are angled some are flat some are pointed and some are squared. Some are even bent towards the tip of the brush to give you a different angle of control. The one you use depends on the type of technique you’ll be using the type of liner you’ll be using and the line look that you are going for.

If you are confused about which one to invest in an angled eyeliner brush like the one pictured above is the most universal. It’s versatile can be used for all types of liner and is pretty simple to master. Ones with shorter hairs will also give you greater control over your line. This is the type of liner brush that I probably use the most!

After all of the mascara and eyelash talk last week I thought it would be useful to revisit one of my favorite tips for better mascara application: using a business card.

The Business Card Mascara Trick is a classic. It's effective easy to master and will help to shield your eyelids from mascara smudges. All you need is a pencil a pair of scissors a business card or index card and your mascara! Here's what to do:

1. Measure the length and shape of your eye while holding the card just above your eye and trace this with the pencil on one edge of the card.
2. Cut the shape out with the scissors. It should look like a little semi-circle or like someone took a little bite out of your card. ;
3. Place the card over your eyelid and gently lift your eyelid up
4. Holding the card in this position apply your mascara as usual. You can even use this on your lower lashes too.

Hi everyone

There are a lot of unusual eyebrow trends these days… One that recently caught my eye ha ha is the invisible eyebrow trend. Have you guys noticed this one?

The photo at the top is of model Daphne Groeneveld. If you look at the photo from far away it really does look like her eyebrows are invisible. And check out those spidery lashes...eek! Below is another photo this one from the H&M line that was inspired by The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo; all of the models’ makeup is made to resemble that of Rooney Mara’s in the film:


I’m not a fan of these but it gets you thinking about how beauty is perceived differently. For example during the Renaissance women would shave their brows so that their foreheads would appear larger therefore giving the illusion of intelligence. They thought this was beautiful because intelligence was perceived as beautiful in that time so it’s kind of funny that this is becoming a trend again.

If anything I think this trend shows you how powerful a nice sculpted brow is and how different you can look without one.

Hi everyone

Did you know 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong bra size? I used to skimp when it came to bras but the constant adjusting and elastic digging into my sides has made me think twice. It’s definitely worth spending a little more on a bra that’s both comfortable and sexy. People start to stare when you mess with your underwire too much. 

I was never properly measured and never knew those services existed at Nordstrom. I was curious to know what my proper bra size was so I headed on over. Nordstrom lingerie was like a candy store—so many colors shapes sizes. I was really impressed. 

My Fairy Bra Mother came over with a measuring tape made me feel very comfortable walked me through the process. She measured me and found out that I have been wearing the wrong bra size. I was shocked and blown away that I been wearing a bra that was two cup sizes off.

Most lingerie brands don’t carry a wide range of bra sizes but Nordstrom does: Low A to GG. I tried out my favorite styles and colors in an intimate dressing room area that reminded me of a chic bedroom. Now I’ve got bras that fit perfectly and I never knew what I was missing.  

Ladies I really recommend getting your bra size measured.  It will change your posture and help you feel better.

The season for weeklong beach vacations overseas plane rides and cross-country treks is here. Celebrating spring break can take a toll on your skin and hair whether you are laying out in your backyard or partying in Bora Bora. So beware of these basic beauty mistakes that can ruin your vacation. To get tips to sidestep these classic beach slipups read more.

Presoak strands: Chlorine from the pool and the salt in the ocean can dry out your hair and turn it wacky colors. So to prevent the tangled and frizzy look of a beach bum take care of your hair before you dip. Saturate hair with water and conditioner before hitting the waves.

Hydrate: Don't let the sun soak up all your moisture. Getting at least eight glasses of water more if you are getting physical exercise is crucial during your vacation. Plus if you decide to sip mojitos poolside you'll need to replenish your inner irrigation system. Visiting the hospital for heatstroke doesn't count as a tourist attraction.

Sunscreen: Sunscreen is an essential for any day in the sun. But don't be fooled and apply only once. The FDA recommends wearing "water-resistant" protection and reapplying every 40 minutes. The prescribed dosage is one ounce so think golf ball-sized dollops. The higher the SPF the lower your risk of sunburn so choose 30 or more. Also make sure to cover all the places exposed to the sun's rays — that means on lips and underneath straps too.

Wax early: Yes you probably want a neat bikini line for your frolic on the beach or tanning by the pool. But you don't want to feel the burn in that area. The trick is to avoid shaving or waxing immediately before your dip your pores are still open and sensitive. Also in order to ward off unpleasant razor rash use a shaving gel and new blades every time.

Skip makeup: Sure you want to look cute while you lay out in the sun but let your natural glow shine. In other words leave your makeup bag at home. Any oil-based products will quickly turn to a slippery mess on your face and body which will only attract sand in unwanted places. For your beach beauty bag keep it simple. Sunscreen and SPF-laden lip balm is all you really need but you can add waterproof mascara if need be.

Hi everyone

The spotlight this week is on angled blush brushes. Angled brushes are basically the same as regular brushes except that the hairs are angled so that you have sculpting ability.

The reason I love an angled brush is that it gives you more control in getting the right shape for your blush and is really good for contouring. You can’t really sculpt with a regular blush that’s usually flat or fluffy and sculpting can dramatically change your appearance and face shape.

Brush hair length is also really important to consider. You want to look for one that has shorter hair; the longer the hair the less control you have over the brush. Also the color pigments tend to move more with longer-haired brushes. So really try to find one with hair that’s not too long and not too short but just the right length. :

For me if I were to choose only one blush brush to ever use I’d go with an angled one over all of the others. It’s just much more versatile.

Hi everyone

Do you have any beauty pet peeves? There are a few things on my list of beauty faux pas and spidery lashes is definitely one of them. Why do people let their mascara look like this?! By spidery lashes I mean that look where the wearer’s eyelashes goop together to look like spindle-y spider legs. Here’s a close-up:


When you pile on too much mascara your delicate lashes clump together and begin to form bendy spider legs. Your lashes should be full not sparse and bunchy!!

This beauty faux pas is often the result of old thick or dry mascara that is layered on in multiple applications. You can avoid this problem by making sure to choose a mascara with a quicker consistency. Also know when it's time to stop when it comes to applying multiple coats. If your lashes are already starting to look a little overdone adding another coat is only going to make it worse. Finally spidery lashes can occur if your eyes get wet or you cry when you already have mascara on. When the lashes dry again they trend to bunch together.

A lot of people seem to think this will be a trendy look come fall but I really really hope not!

Today's Rewind Wednesday post is about the Wet on Wet Technique for applying eyeshadow. This tutorial was inspired by watercolor painting and borrows the application process from that art. It's a useful technique because it gives you the ability to pick up more pigments in your shadow and also allows for smoother application. It's also gentle on the eyes and won't mess up your foundation or powder. Enjoy and good luck!

P.S. Not sure why I sound like I'm 5 in the audio haha!

Everyone has been asking me for prom looks but because I've been so busy filming amazing shows for FAWN for you to enjoy of course I could only film one video. Good news though: this makeup look is extremely versatile! You can warm up the colors or cool it back down or even neutralize it depending on your dress. Here are some of the ways that I would suggest adapting the makeup to go with your overall look:

Hi everyone

A lot of you asked about finding cheap brushes in last week’s Beauty School post so today I thought I would share my take on drugstore brushes.

Good cheap makeup brushes are a lot easier to find these days. Most drugstores carry a lot of different brands but one that I’ve tried and really liked is Ecotools. I think Ecotools are amazing and they are actually among my favorite brush brands!

Overall drugstore foundation brushes have really come a long way too. They are much more sophisticated today than they were in the yesteryears. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a great brush collection!

Hi everyone

Have you ever heard of putting potatoes on your eyes as a way to reduce bagginess and dark circles? Well it works! Potatoes have a cooling effect and can actually lighten dark under-eye circles. Who would have thought?! Mr. or Miss! Potato head should be proud! Take a cue from him and next time you have dark eyes wrap up a bit of grated raw potato in something like cheesecloth or gauze. Rest it on your eyes for about 10-15 minutes and that’s it!

Every year I like to try out a new foundation application technique but this technique was something I discovered by accident. I went on a quick trip to NY and forgot my foundation brush so I decided to use my blush brush. Surprisingly it worked better than I thought! I find myself applying foundation faster with this technique. Watch the video above to learn the technique.

Dry brushing isn't something that exists in the makeup world it's from the art world. Lots of painters use this technique to create various textures for their paintings. Have you ever tried this foundation method before? Click here to learn how Daven styled my hair for this video.

I recently received this Alexander McQueen clutch as a gift...isn't it beautiful?! I have been taking it everywhere with me. It's perfect for all sorts of occasions because the size and print make it incredibly versatile. You can dress it up and pair it with a pretty party dress for a fancy occasion or pair it with a tee and pants or skirt for a glammed-up casual look. It makes such a statement no matter which way you work it!

This is a photo from Chriselle's blog from a Nylon x Coach event that we attended together not too long ago. That night I paired it with a pretty peach dress from ASOS to give the girly look a little more attitude!

Here's another look - this time I wore it with black pants a leather jacket and my trusty booties. :

Today I'm filming & directing on location. It's so nice to spend some time outside. It's also really bright out so I'm rocking my new sunnies. :D

Where Do You Apply Makeup On the Go?

Scent is a very powerful thing. Whether we recognize it or not our noses are capable of analyzing thousands of smells. And subconsciously we're constantly using olfaction to evaluate our environment. As you might expect with a faculty that we use so often research has shown that smells can have a profound effect on mood and particular smells have a positive effect on the majority of people. So find out which scents have been shown to perk you up.

Jasmine or rose

Flowers are a global people pleaser but their forms and hues aren't the only thing we find heartening. Jasmine and rose have historically been used in aromatherapy and more recent research backs up their salutary reputation. In fact a series of studies from the Human Emotions Laboratory at Rutgers University found that flowers in general are a "powerful positive emotion inducer" and that exposure to floral scents in particular can increase people's immediate associations with happy thoughts threefold.

Lemon oil

All citrus smells are reputed to lift your mood but the pure bright scent of lemon oil seems to be particularly effective. Not only has it been shown to perk people up and reduce anxiety other people also have a more positive impression of those wearing it. A recent study from Le Moyne College found that people associate lemony scents with femininity cleanliness and pleasantness.

Licorice

When ingested licorice can raise estrogen levels and blood pressure and smelling it seems to have a faint pro-adrenal effect as well. As far back as the first century CE physicians like the Greek writer Dioscorides were touting licorice for its ability to put patients in a mellow mood and research from the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation has found that smelling licorice not only makes people happier but makes them more physically aroused as well.

Lavender

Lavender is an olfactory panacea: it's been shown to improve mood soothe anxiety increase sexual arousal and even ease physical pain. Most importantly for the purposes of this story however recent work from the University of Miami School of Medicine showed that smelling lavender "had a significant transient effect of improving mood making people feel more relaxed and performing math computations faster." So not only will it make you happier it just might give your Sudoku game an edge too.

You may not think about your makeup brushes as often as you do the type of foundation or color eyeshadow that you use but that doesn’t mean that your brush collection isn’t every bit as important to your makeup collection as the individual products that you swear by! Your brushes are an essential part of your makeup collection…you can have all the best cosmetics in the world but without brushes your application and finished look will suffer.

A lot of times people aren’t sure what kind of brushes they should buy. If you have a relatively small makeup collection are on a tight budget or don’t have any makeup brushes to begin with it can be confusing. So over a few Beauty School posts I thought we could focus on these necessary tools – from how to maximize your brush budget as a whole to the detailed descriptions of each individual brush!

To start things off today I’m sharing what I think are the absolute essential makeup brushes that a girl should own. Here are the seven you should make sure you have in your collection:

1. A foundation brush
2. Powder brush
3. Blush brush
4. Eyeshadow brush
5. Fluffy brush
6. Liner brush
7. Small eyeshadow brush

I've been flying to NYC every other month to work for the past year. This was my most recent trip!

Packing extra light because I was too lazy to bring a fab wardrobe. Lots of layering on this trip!

Off the plane straight into work I have to bring something to love and hug to keep myself from going crazy!! Ignore my bummy outfit I usually change in my office.

Fancy dinner with the team. With them I eat fancy :D

Dinner with my friend at home. Personally I love comfort food more. Shin Ramen anyone?!

Late night snack for those times when I'm really hungry. 53rd and 6th. Best Chicken and Rice!

Hi everyone

If you’ve been following my blog lately you know that I’ve been doing a LOT of traveling since 2012 began. It’s mostly all been for work but I’ve been lucky in that it’s taken me to some really amazing places such as Miami New York Paris Rome Florence Tuscany Verona Venice and now I’m back in New York AGAIN.

Since my “exploring” time is often so limited on these trips organized tours have been really helpful. They’re not just for old ladies you guys I swear! When we were in Europe filming in January we used Contiki Vacations for our escorted tours. It made things so much easier and eliminated a lot of the guesswork for all of us so we could actually enjoy what little downtime we had. We were able to squeeze in trips to all of the historical landmarks that we wanted to see and work in some fun mini adventures too like a wine tasting tour and trips to the local market. I felt like we were speed-dating Italy!

Personally I have enough trouble with the packing process…I can’t imagine working packing and planning it all…

What kind of traveler are you? Do you like to explore with no plans at all do you research and make all the plans yourself or do you like to use the services of a travel operator like Contiki?

I fly out to NY every month to work. Working corporate you have to dress accordingly but that doesn't mean you have to suit it up every day.

Here I am in my office. The glitzy purple pillows in the back are from Target :D

You can still dress up something simple for an office-appropriate look. Today I'm wearing my H&M black V-neck shirt paired with a beautiful magenta skirt. Because I'm so petite I had to hike up the skirt up and used my BCBG belt to cinch the waist.

My shoes are from Zara I swear I wear these shoes everywhere in NY. You walk a lot in this city but these shoes are so comfortable that I can still look stylish with a boost of height!

For accessories I'm wearing my Triangle Necklace and Geometric Jet Rings in gold and gunmetal all House of Harlow.

As for my makeup I decided to wear a very minimal look today! Just concealer brows and a nice lip stain. I wanted my outfit to make the statement. The magenta is so bold if you wear too much makeup with this kind of color it can overwhelm everything.

I like to think of fragrance as an invisible accessory. It’s an incredibly easy way to change both your attitude and the entire vibe of your look. Just one spritz can give you a total confidence boost and give you the allure factor. Not to mention it’s the strongest memory trigger! If you have a trademark scent whenever people smell it—whether you’re there or not—they will instantly be reminded of you. :

My favorite perfume right now is Trésor Midnight Rose – it’s very feminine and sweet with notes of raspberry black currant rose jasmine musk & vanilla…and comes in my favorite color bottle!

Where do you apply your makeup when you're on the go? Do you ever put it on in the car? I know that some people do their makeup in the car all the time I see them on the road! and sometimes I have to do a touch-up or two on the go but you really shouldn't apply makeup while you're operating a car at all! Unless you are at a full stop!

After my photo shoot with Jingna I had to do a quick touch-up before going to get a bite to eat... but I was completely stopped and wasn't even driving. :

Tomorrow March 8 is International Women's Day! International Women's Day was founded in 1910 as a day that each country would devote to recognizing and addressing the needs and concerns of women. It remains an important day not just for women but for everyone.

Have you ever had a top on and thought "Ew this color is doing absolutely nothing for my complexion?" We've all been there. And the same principle rings true with makeup particularly when it comes down to the old-school notion that warms must wear warms and cools must wear cools.

"I don't like to tell people they can't wear colors because I've always believed we should be able to wear whatever we please" explains celebrity makeup artist Emily Kate Warren. "That paired with the fact that it's difficult for people to determine their undertones may mean they are assessing themselves wrong and avoiding colors they could actually wear." But luckily there are a few ways you can still wear the colors you love even if it takes a little bit of color correction to get there. Here are some of Warren's tips:

If you have a lot of red undertones:
"If you have redness or ruddiness around your nose forehead chin etc. you don't necessarily have to avoid any colors" Warren advises. But she does recommend "using a green-toned primer to mute them before hitting some red tones specifically."

If you want to make that green-toned primer less obvious:
"A sheer green primer like the one from Smashbox or Make Up For Ever is great to mute redness" she explains. And then to set it try a yellow powder like Benefit's Bluff Dust after you've applied your regular foundation.

If you have a lot of yellow undertones:
Try a purple-toned primer to take away some of the sallowness. "In this case you might find that wearing bronze tones around the eyes could warm up some of the yellows a bit" adds Warren.

If you have a lot of blue undertones:
"Blue is usually someone who has very fair skin and you can literally see some of those greenish/blue veins" she says. To counteract these tones try an apricot primer and avoid using purple tones on the eyes.

If you have a lot of pink in your skin:
"Pink falls in that green primer category we talked about" Warren explains. "I find that as a red-toned-skin person with an Irish/English background myself I often can't wear pale pinks or apricots in clothing. Sometimes pale colors like that bring the red out more — or worse wash you out."

Tucking in your hair is a look that is becoming more and more popular with the fashion set both on the runway and off. It’s that look like you just pulled a turtleneck or coat over your head but your hair is still trapped inside:

Tucked in hair is a playful yet coy look that complements turtlenecks and high-necked coats especially well. I personally love this look! I tuck my hair into my scarves all the time when it’s cold outside and did this a lot on my recent trip to New York.

One of the things I love about this look is that it gives the illusion of shorter-looking hair. Faux bobs were big on the runway this month and this is a style that does the work for you. It can be subtle or extreme and you don't need to have long hair to partake. Bonus: this is one hair trend that’s completely free!! It doesn’t cost a thing to tuck in your hair to look chic and stay warm. :

To perfect this look pull a shirt or sweater over your head and keep your hair tucked into the neck/collar region. Make sure it is fairly evenly distributed around your neck as opposed to all on one side. Instead of pulling it out all the way run your hands palms in between your hair and your neck like you are cupping your neck. Then gently bring your arms out to the side to delicately and evenly lift hair out of the collar ever so slightly. This will create that tousled faux bob effect. The same can be done with a big scarf or shawl for a more layered look. Embrace the stray wisps and piece-y parts that fall out a little more than the others; you want it to look unintentional but not accidental. Loose strands add a cute girly-ness to the look.

For this Rewind Wednesday post I thought it would be appropriate given all my recent travels to revisit a tutorial I did years ago for Airplane Makeup.

I don’t know about you but traveling always makes me feel a little dull and drab which is why I created this tutorial for a simple and fresh look that you can do from your seat on a plane. Since airline regulations limit the amount of liquids gels & aerosols that you can bring on board with you this look only calls for makeup that you could easily carry on. Oh yeah and I actually filmed this on a plane so you can be sure that it’s very doable!

Tightlining your eyes is an easy way to give the illusion of fuller darker lashes. The idea may scare some people but it's really quite easy. Here's how:

When it comes to tightlining I prefer to use gel liner because it’s not as tough or abrasive as regular liner. So begin by warming up your gel liner to melt the product down a bit for easier application. Gently pushing your eyelid back line your upper waterline. All you are doing and simply applying liner to the underside of your lash line as opposed to over it.

To form a perfect and accurate line practice your brush strokes ahead of time. I recommend practicing on the inside of your forearm where the skin is the smoothest. Once you are ready create a precise line with your eyeliner brush through a series of use many short thin brush strokes. That's it!

Here are answers to some of the things you guys wanted to know about regarding the making of this film. If you have any more leave them in the comments below!

On how long it took to film... It took 3 days to film an extra day for pick up shots and then a bunch more to edit. :

On my lipstick... I wore a bunch of different lip colors throughout the film depending on my mood. I honestly feel like a lot of girls like to change their lip color midday I know I do! Do you?

On casting Dominique... The reason why I chose Dominique to play the leading role is because we were friends from before and I always feel more comfortable working with people that I know.

My favorite moment of the film was... The scene at the lock bridge. It was so romantic… 

The most challenging part of the film was... The most challenging part of making this film was trying to stay warm. I was freezing…my coat barely kept me warm! I don’t think it got any warmer than … I know that that’s part of winter but I’m from sunny states so don’t judge!

On working in Paris... I was so thrown off when we would have 2-3 hour lunch breaks! I'm use to a 30 minute lunch break!

Something you probably don't know about the film is... Something you wouldn't know from watching but that really happened during filming was all the joking around between Dominique and I in the cafe scene in the beginning. When it looks like we're talking I was actually talking nonsense to him!

I am particularly proud of... When Dominique says "merci." He recorded that part in the studio because we didn't have a mic on the camera! Crazy huh?

And for all of you wondering where the coat is from I'll ask Chriselle about that one.

Warming your gel liner before you use it will allow for smoother and easier application. To warm the product you can wave a blow dryer on it or even just hold the gel pot against your skin. When you begin lining you’ll find it glides on much easier and produces a more precise line. :

Loyalty Lilac / Mother Nature Spearmint / Truth Pineapple Kiwi - 10 each

Hi everyone

If you could make your nails smell like anything what would you want them to smell like? Personally I’ve never even considered what I’d like my nails to smell like but scent-infused nail polish does exist!

One brand making the stuff is called Tuff Scent and according to their website their scented polishes will leave your nails smelling like the fragrance of your choice for 1-3 days. Crazy!! Other than the scent they seem to be totally normal polishes. The photo at the top is a pic of their Water collection.

Revlon has released a few collections scented nail polishes in the past as well. Theirs are slightly cheaper than Tuff Scent’s but the collection is less extensive. You can view the colors here.

I haven’t tried scented polish before but I’m curious to know how well it works. It would definitely be a product to try out at the store and see if you like before buying…you would hate to buy a whole bottle of a smell you can’t stand.

1. Tint and/or perm your lashes — You could also get lash extensions but they're pricey. Getting your lashes dyed and permanently curled makes mascara unnecessary for lots of people it lasts for about six weeks and a tint or perm should only cost you about 30.

2. Braid the night before — Braided hairstyles can last most people at least a couple of days so spend a little time one evening braiding your hair then protect it overnight by pinning it up or covering it with a scarf or cap. Then in the morning all you have to do is smooth down flyaways.

3. Skip the foundation — All-over foundation looks great on the red carpet but for everyday life it's much faster to substitute a light powder and then just use a concealer to cover spots.

4. Use a tinted moisturizer with SPF — Another foundation-free option that multitasks beautifully is tinted moisturizer with SPF. It evens skin tone covers up little imperfections hydrates and protects your skin in one swipe.

5. Use a stain on your cheeks and lips — Stains are sheer so blending them is much faster and easier than powder or lipsticks and you don't have to worry about coordinating makeup colors if you use a double-duty product.

It may look like a lot but when you find a product that you love and that really works it’s hard to leave it behind! Especially when you’re on the road as much as I’ve been lately. This is my “travel size.”

You can take the girl away from the beauty counter but you can’t take the beauty counter away from the girl? LOL
