Pulling Off The Natural Look..Naturally

Many girls have asked me what is the easiest and most natural looking makeup you can use?

The answer is simple, and most of you will roll your eyes to it.

Don’t wear any makeup…

It’s as easy as that.

Believe it or not, your skin benefits from makeup. Wearing foundation gives your skin sun protection, about SPF 8. Now you need at least 15, but SPF 8 is better than nothing right?

Don’t let this give you an excuse to wear makeup at every waking hour. You should give your skin a break from makeup. I usually don’t wear makeup on Sunday. I just wear a light moisturizer  and lip balm.

The trick is, when you don’t need to wear makeup, remove it right away. If you have to go out later, apply a fresh application of makeup instead because your pores will build up sebum and block your pores if you leave your makeup on for more then 10+ hours. Thus clogging them and later forming nasty pimples.

I ALWAYS remove my makeup before I sleep. Even after I am so so tired that I can barely brush my teeth, I remove every inch of makeup on my skin. It takes a great deal of discipline to grow accustomed to this routine, but it is a MUST if you wear makeup on a daily bases. It will pay off later. Sleeping with makeup on ages your skin faster…unless you crave to have wrinkles now then go for it!

Now I am not one of those girls who takes photos of herself with no makeup and claim how ugly I look. I don’t fish for compliments from people to reassure me that I look good without makeup. I know I’m not hideous without it (rememeber it’s not ego, it’s confidence), but I know for a fact I look a BAGILLION times better with makeup. It’s okay, I’m confident to post photos of myself without makeup. Heck, you’ve seen videos of me with no makeup. Shrugs, doesn’t bother me. No one is perfect.

So give your skin a break, and let it breath. You air out your carpet and house, so why not your skin?

But I’ll tell you this. It’s easier to pull off the all natural look if you have clear skin. You don’t need big doe like eyes, a tiny nose and great hair. You can have all of the above, but if your skin is in bad shape, you’ll have a harder time pulling off the no makeup look.

Remember, reduce your dark circles. Clear your blemishes. Even out your skin tone, and you can pull off the no makeup look with ease. Haha, I know it’s easier said than done, but I am confident you can do it!

I’ll help along the way too =)

Kindly,

Michelle Phan

Hi Michelle, im a big fan of yours!
I had a clear skin with only few acne scars and freckles and breakout once in a while. Early this year,i tried your aspirin mask hoping to get my pores smaller but it horribly damaged my face. :,( I literally had acne all over my face for straight 5 months.I’ve been using purpose facial wash for a while now and my face is getting better. But i noticed it gives me whiteheads and oily face that makes me very prone to breakouts. I am also left with so much acne scars. What do you recommend me to do?

i hope you could help me with my problem. i miss my clear skin pre-aspirin mask.

*warning: this is a random comment from ANOTHER guy who is awestruck by Michelle Phan’s beauty*
O_O!!! Absolutely amazing! Now this is one of those things I love about women!

Allow me to explain: watching Michelle in make-up is like seeing an actress on the big screen or some awesome superheroine proudly displaying lavish costume. But it is when I see a beautiful girl without make-up, it’s like grounding the fantasy. For example, these photos of you, Michelle, make me realize you’re tangible, real, approachable. Hell, I’d even go as far as imagining waking up every morning to those eyes, lips, undone hair… LOL. I suppose the point I’m trying to make here is that I’m proof that a guy can go for a girl’s natural look. There’s no need to stress over what Nature made right from the beginning….
…that, and Michelle is beautiful though I believe due to her large following and my luck, those fantasies are a privilege I shouldn’t be allowed to have… ^_^ My regards to Bun Bun as well.

wow someone has a big head. your not even pretty, and without makeup you clearly have uneven skin tones. it would be nice if you would help all of us without talking down. your not all that, and frankly…the whole “doe eye” stupid look is annoying. i seriously doubt its even you talking on your videos, its probably your caretaker taking for you, retard looking wannabe. once you get your underbite fixed then you can talk to me about beauty. WHAT A JOKE!

When you show your “naked” face on youtube or those pics above, you always use light effect that washes you out, hence making your skin look more fair and airbrushed. If you are really confident, as you claimed, try being real and use normal light and high quality camera, check out makeupgeektv video on youtube to see what I mean. Otherwise, please stop saying that you have clear skin because you take care of it bla bla bla, you are so far quite lucky to have fairly decent skin mostly because of genetic, when you get cystic acne due to hormonal issues or other things you cannot control then you can talk about how to keep your skin healthy.

    Hi Michelle,
I only just viewed some of your vids and your blog here today, not to boast, but before i tried out one of my friend’s aloe product my skin was pretty much flawless… pimples only every so often but the benefit of having asian skin is great! But 2 years ago I tried an aloe product because it was working so well on my friends, after a couple of months using it my skin broke out so bad nothing was working and it infected my skin to a point where I could not even smile because it’ll bleed and cause me so much pain. Thank goodness now after all the treatments and medications everything is back to normal, but my skin still has shadows of the scars, I can’t seem to get rid of it and I really want to get to a point where I don’t have to use make up anymore, I want to be able to not need to go to work worrying about putting on foundation since I know it’s not great for your skin… I need s kin product which can help skin regenration and also get rid of those scars on my face, luckily it hasn’t cause any dints or anything just dark spots on my cheeks. Anything you could recommend? I don’t want to be paying hundreds on dollars on lazers, I want to find something lasting, something I can stick to, something which would be prioritized before make up.
Hope I didn’t flood you with too much, it’s just been so long, and i wish i could see my perfect skin again. =] thank you~

hi! michelle, I have always liked your videos and think you are a nice person! But I am afraid I also agree with some other comments that perhaps you should have shown a clearer shot of your face, without the soft, blown out lighting, and with a clear camera shot.

This of course is your personal preference, and I understand that the pictures are more “artistic” in this lighting, but for the purpose of your blog post, I think perhaps the readers would appreciate a straight on shot.

    Thank you!

Hello Michelle! I am a huge fan and was hoping you could help me out with just this topic: being beautiful without make-up! I agree that having clear skin is the first step! Unfortuantly for me this is quite difficult! I am prone to acne specificly on my jawline. I used to have problems with my skin going from super dry to super oily, but I started using Proactive in hopes it would cure all three problems: acne, dryness, and oilyness. So far my face is neither dry nor oily, but my acne still comes up. So while my skin isn’t dry nor oily and my acne is reduced, my skin is not toned out and it’s not as bright and glowing as I would like. I read about so many products that help reduce acne and give you a bright new fresh face, but my problem is that Proactive tells you not to use products that contain oils. Can you recommend any products that could work with Proactive in that sense and help reduce acne while making my face brighter and fresher?

    To AJ and November,

Michelle has a lot of videos showing her “naked” face without the washed out effect from lighting, but unfortunately knowing this fact won’t change your immature opinions because the both of you are dead set on trolling Michelle’s blog. Perhaps you are sent from the competition or that you’re too insecure about yourselves that you cannot stand another’s beauty and success. I don’t know for sure what your case is here, but hate begets hate and I sincerely hope your are manners are better in Real Life than they are behind a computer screen.

    To Michelle,
You’re heaven sent to a lot of people. The fact that you share your talents alone is enough to be of praise. I somewhat follow your blogs and youtube vids every now and then to get tips and tricks; they’ve been wonderful. All in all, I’ve learned a lot.

    Thank you.

Quote: “It’s okay, I’m confident to post photos of myself without makeup. Heck, you’ve seen videos of me with no makeup. Shrugs, doesn’t bother me.”

To be honest please don’t use those videos as an example of what you look like without make up. You record with lighting that barely shows your “true” face. And those photos don’t prove anything, notice your shooting in light “again” or maybe your using Adobe Photoshop to edit out some since you have experience with it or you never know. I am ashamed of you for giving this kind of a example. So you claim you are confident with that photo will tell you what, try again and be more real.

    Hi Michelle Phan!
I just wanted to say that this blog has really inspired me. I’ve come back to read it a few times.
The first time I read it was on a weekend, and decided to try out your Sunday technique. I only had some powder on to even out my skin (usually wear liquid foundation everryyyyday). It felt so great, that I continued on the week only wearing powder.
I am wearing less and less makeup these days, which really helps in clearing my skin. I’m so amazed at the results and feel waay more confident with my skin now!
Thank you so much for posting this blog! It’s really had an effect on me.

Hi Michelle, I just wanted to say thank you for all your videos. I really admire all the work you’ve done and the wisdom you’ve shared with us.

I’ve notice a lot young makeup gurus have quit because of so much hatred on youtube. It’s funny how people spend so much time trying to observe all your flaws and such, and I just wanted to remind all you “haters”. Of course no one is perfect as Michelle stated, so get off her cooch and stop making a big deal that your blind butt cannot see her face without makeup.

And all you stupid asshole saying she’s not really natural because theirs light on her face blah, blah, blah! Stfu! She is natural she doesn’t have to prove anything to you people so gtfo if your going to criticize her. Michelle I think your beautiful inside and out! KEEP DOING YOUR THING!!!!

these pictures conceal your face, with lighting tricks etc… i dont think you are confident at all without makeup. you are very much dependent on it. its not healthy to have such a dependence on a face altering substance. both for your mental and physical health. you say makeup has benefits but it really doesn’t. it just makes clear skin even more unattainable by blocking pores.
