Pulling Off The Natural Look..Naturally

Many girls have asked me what is the easiest and most natural looking makeup you can use?

The answer is simple, and most of you will roll your eyes to it.

Don’t wear any makeup…

It’s as easy as that.

Believe it or not, your skin benefits from makeup. Wearing foundation gives your skin sun protection, about SPF 8. Now you need at least 15, but SPF 8 is better than nothing right?

Don’t let this give you an excuse to wear makeup at every waking hour. You should give your skin a break from makeup. I usually don’t wear makeup on Sunday. I just wear a light moisturizer  and lip balm.

The trick is, when you don’t need to wear makeup, remove it right away. If you have to go out later, apply a fresh application of makeup instead because your pores will build up sebum and block your pores if you leave your makeup on for more then 10+ hours. Thus clogging them and later forming nasty pimples.

I ALWAYS remove my makeup before I sleep. Even after I am so so tired that I can barely brush my teeth, I remove every inch of makeup on my skin. It takes a great deal of discipline to grow accustomed to this routine, but it is a MUST if you wear makeup on a daily bases. It will pay off later. Sleeping with makeup on ages your skin faster…unless you crave to have wrinkles now then go for it!

Now I am not one of those girls who takes photos of herself with no makeup and claim how ugly I look. I don’t fish for compliments from people to reassure me that I look good without makeup. I know I’m not hideous without it (rememeber it’s not ego, it’s confidence), but I know for a fact I look a BAGILLION times better with makeup. It’s okay, I’m confident to post photos of myself without makeup. Heck, you’ve seen videos of me with no makeup. Shrugs, doesn’t bother me. No one is perfect.

So give your skin a break, and let it breath. You air out your carpet and house, so why not your skin?

But I’ll tell you this. It’s easier to pull off the all natural look if you have clear skin. You don’t need big doe like eyes, a tiny nose and great hair. You can have all of the above, but if your skin is in bad shape, you’ll have a harder time pulling off the no makeup look.

Remember, reduce your dark circles. Clear your blemishes. Even out your skin tone, and you can pull off the no makeup look with ease. Haha, I know it’s easier said than done, but I am confident you can do it!

I’ll help along the way too =)

Kindly,

Michelle Phan

I agree with every word you said =D I always take my make-up of when I go to sleep. It just doesn’t feel right when I wear make-up at night. I like the way I look without make-up (though I have spots and acne, I’m 14 and I’m in the middle of my puberty!) But I’m working on my skin now by applying once in a week the Facial Cupcake Mask from Lush, it works so well! But I agree with what you say, I look way better with than without =D

It was so much fun to read all the articles on your site. Your vids are entertaining and I’ll be a subscriber till the end =D

    Hugs ‘n kisses, Bear. =D

I think there are a lot of girls who can still pull off the zit-faced look with their other features. Good looks isn’t everything and neither are pictures that don’t really show what one looks like in person, W/O the cake.

    Hey Michelle,
I love you with makeup, or without! You’re beautiful either way :) .
I do think you’re an inspiration to all girls out there, and I really appreciate your tips on how to reduce aging (now when we’re still young) i.e. by not tugging on our eyelids etc.

    You are amazing! :)
    Keep going :)

You look great w/o makeup btw!

Well…I can’t agree with Michelle anymore…I do not wear makeup everyday…as a matter of fact, I ONLY wear makeup when I am going out like Thursday and Saturday nights….and I try to restrict it to the night time when I am about to go out then I put on my makeup…and as for daily life, I will go by without any makeup…I only apply moisturiser with SPF protection…and lip balm…

And what I am trying to say is that having beautiful and spotless skin is 1000 times more beautiful than putting on makeup…I am not bragging but I do have skin like Michelle which is spotless and smooth…and my ’secret’ is to avoid alcohol and cigarettes…MOST importantly, drinking tea with a lot of anti oxidant…it is just my personal opinion…=)

Hi Michelle, you are totally right, and thanks for this post, I didnt know you should remove make-up before its been 10 hours. I also always remove m make-up even if Im to tired. It does require discipline, but you do get alot in return. Much love, zsuzsi

Bella, you should use a concealer-stick that has a salmon-colour, not a light colour. Your circles will disapear.

    Hi Michelle,

On the days you do wear make up, what brand and shade foundation do you use? I watched your CVS foundation video and am inspired to try a few. However, being an Asian girl I find it hard to find a foundation color that is not too red or too white for my skin tone. Can you offer some top recommendations (drug or department) so I can cut down the number of trial and error?

    Thanks!

Hey Michelle, I’m doing this project for my general education class about time management. We have to interview successful people about their time management strategies. I really want to interview you!!!! but didnt know how to get through to you because ur email is only used for business. I hope you get to read my comment here.

if you have some spare time can you please answer these questions for me?
    1. Do you use a daily, weekly, and/or monthly planner or a “to do” list? If so, how do you prioritize your schedule?
    2. How do you manage your time to meet both your personal and professional commitments?
    3. What do you recommend that students do to best manage their time?

It would mean a lot to me, thanks :) )

    Hey Michelle,

I know you get a ton of comments on this website but I would really appreciate it if you gave me a quick advice for my question…

I know you’re really busy but my question is:

What is the best way to take off make-up?
I usually just wash my face off at night but should I invest in a good make-up remover?

    Thanks!

I have an off topic question. I went back to one of your xanga posts about On the Go: CVS Skin Care Review. I’m so confused about what type of skin I have. It’s oily on my nose but dry on my forehead and nose too. I hate how dry/oily it gets on my nose. Any tips on products (cleansers, moisturizers) if you can?

Also, I see you use your 14 day Serum in your recent videos. Do you use that only for 14 days or you can use it longer?

    Thanks so much!
    -Nicole :)
