Pulling Off The Natural Look..Naturally

Many girls have asked me what is the easiest and most natural looking makeup you can use?

The answer is simple, and most of you will roll your eyes to it.

Don’t wear any makeup…

It’s as easy as that.

Believe it or not, your skin benefits from makeup. Wearing foundation gives your skin sun protection, about SPF 8. Now you need at least 15, but SPF 8 is better than nothing right?

Don’t let this give you an excuse to wear makeup at every waking hour. You should give your skin a break from makeup. I usually don’t wear makeup on Sunday. I just wear a light moisturizer  and lip balm.

The trick is, when you don’t need to wear makeup, remove it right away. If you have to go out later, apply a fresh application of makeup instead because your pores will build up sebum and block your pores if you leave your makeup on for more then 10+ hours. Thus clogging them and later forming nasty pimples.

I ALWAYS remove my makeup before I sleep. Even after I am so so tired that I can barely brush my teeth, I remove every inch of makeup on my skin. It takes a great deal of discipline to grow accustomed to this routine, but it is a MUST if you wear makeup on a daily bases. It will pay off later. Sleeping with makeup on ages your skin faster…unless you crave to have wrinkles now then go for it!

Now I am not one of those girls who takes photos of herself with no makeup and claim how ugly I look. I don’t fish for compliments from people to reassure me that I look good without makeup. I know I’m not hideous without it (rememeber it’s not ego, it’s confidence), but I know for a fact I look a BAGILLION times better with makeup. It’s okay, I’m confident to post photos of myself without makeup. Heck, you’ve seen videos of me with no makeup. Shrugs, doesn’t bother me. No one is perfect.

So give your skin a break, and let it breath. You air out your carpet and house, so why not your skin?

But I’ll tell you this. It’s easier to pull off the all natural look if you have clear skin. You don’t need big doe like eyes, a tiny nose and great hair. You can have all of the above, but if your skin is in bad shape, you’ll have a harder time pulling off the no makeup look.

Remember, reduce your dark circles. Clear your blemishes. Even out your skin tone, and you can pull off the no makeup look with ease. Haha, I know it’s easier said than done, but I am confident you can do it!

I’ll help along the way too =)

Kindly,

Michelle Phan

    Hi Michelle,

Can I do brozer and blush on the same face? If I put brozer on the sides then I look skinner, right?

regarding the skin issue, Michelle, you haven’t done any DIY skin tutorials lately :( I feel like you are shifting completley to makeup =[ I loved the on the go skin review, and masks. Can you make more videos for skin? not just recommendations for IQQU, thanks!

I want to buy yout Iqqu cream and stuff, but my Mom dosn’t like me buying over the internet >.<" is there any other products out there that can help me, well that you know of? :)

Hi Michelle! I’m so glad that your website is finally up and running! I agree with the others… As much as I love your makeup videos, I would appreciate the occasional DIY skincare video too. If you have time, can you make a video about dry and/or chapped skin for the cold winter months? My skin appears so dry these days. Good luck with everything!

I agree with you ^_^. My skin tends to be sensitive and when I know I’m going out I usually won’t have make up on, Not all the time though :laughs: Although sometimes when I feel like I need to unwind after a busy week, I will just put on concealer and be as natural as possible :) .

Glad to see the web is up in running!

I’m a Tampa native (born and raised), so protecting my skin is my absolute number one priority. I prefer to be pale, rather than tan and I always wear SPF skin moisturizer since I work outside in the sun. Because of that I also stick to natural looking make up, I don’t need heavy eyeliner running down my face half way through the day.

    Love your tutorials,
    Crystal ♥

It’s great that you show pics of yourself without makeup, but isn’t it a little deceiving that your pictures have like this big sunlight thing in your face, pretty much blocking out most of your face? We don’t really see “no makeup face.” It’s more like “no face.”

So true! No matter how pretty you are, it’s hard to overlook if you have a mess of pimples on your face. I don’t usually put on makeup but when I do, I’m very fastidious when I remove it. Don’t want to any heartache later on, haha.

I do have a problem with my skin being flacky no matter how much or little I exfoliate so foundation is a no-no for me. :(

Michelle – what are the best home remedies for blackheads and dark eye circles?

For Chivonne : “Mr. Bun Bun, is he litter box trained? I’ve wanted to get a rabbit but I want him to be able to roam freely in the house. I’m just not sure how that will work out.”

(I know I’m not Michelle, but I know a little in this area). I had a house trained bunny, they are VERY hard to house train and require a lot of dedication. Most bunnies, even though litter trained still have the constant need to chew up stuff like wires, carpets, ect.

For those who can successfully house train a bunny, it’s a great accomplishment. But when I moved my house trained bunny from my boyfriends house to mine, he couldn’t adapt to the change and pooped EVERYwhere except the litter box.

And WARNING they do poop a LOT. It’s like it is almost all they do, eat and poop. Don’t think like ..5 pellets a day, think more along the lines of a 100. Tiny little brown beads, all over your floor.

    Good luck!
(PS. You can also litter train other pets such as ferrets, but same goes for them).

For Mei : “can you do a video on how you remove ur makeup especially how to remove eyeliner that is tightlined on without tucking at your eye?”

She has a video up of her using (I believe) regular household vegetable oil to remove make up. I tried it myself and it is a fantastic way, but not for those with dry or irritated skin as it may cause slight burning. It removes my make up so much faster and easier than normal make up remover, but it is definitely something you have to get adjusted to, I’m not used to feel of oil on my skin and I do wash my face with warm water after wards to remove the oil :P

Q-tips dipped in the oil (or any other make up remover) also work in a great way to remove that annoying eyeliner that just wont come off.

You should be able to find that video on her youtube (ricebunny) page.
PS. I’m no expert, this is just information I have collected from Michelle’s videos myself.

    Good luck!

Hi Michelle! I wanted to know your take on the plum lipstick trend of 2009. Do you think people off the runway can pull this off? If so, would it be possible for you to make a tutorial on this? Thanks! =]

Yes your new blog is up! (Looks like it’s been up for a while, but I never found out until just now) I skimmed through your old posts and looks like you’re having a bit of a learning curve with wordpress? I’m no expert but can def try to help you with anything.

Anyways, removing makeup – always – is a great tip. I force myself to take off every bit of makeup, especially eye makeup, before I got to bed no matter how tired I am after the night.. it just feels so good to sleep with a clear face.

You wrote a really beautiful text, i’m totally agree with you; the more you don’t have makeup on your face the better it is for your skin and your pores; i think that it’s better to avoid foundation and choose a cream to improve your skin and mask your imperfections when you absolutely need to mask them.
your advices are always really precious; i wanted to say to you that you are really talented in what you’re doing, so good luck for all :)
(sorry for my english mistakes but i’m french haha^^)
