September is perhaps the biggest month on the beauty calendar, the time when brands debut all their prettiest and most innovative products. And this September is already looking like one of the most exciting in years. So check out our guide to some of the best polishes available — everything from the most amazing stick-on polishes you've ever seen to the limited-edition shades that will have everyone talking.

nclaMeanwhile, in the Bedroom
Nail polish strips are improving by leaps and bounds these days, and there are several smaller brands doing amazing stuff. Nail Couture LA nail wraps in Boudoir ($16) have a pretty floriated turquoise pattern on an espresso field, making them perfect for bridging the color gap between seasons.

butterBlack Gold, Texas Tea
Old gold and gray-black are a luxe, skin-flattering combination that also coordinates well with almost any other color. The new Butter London lacquer in Wallis ($14) is a rich and sophisticated take on the duo, and the glitter in it is eye-catching without being gaudy. It's the kind of color that makes everything you wear with it look more expensive.

paul & joeSexy and the City
Rich purples are going to be hot again this year, but traditional eggplant and dark plum shades can look a little dreary. That's where Paul & Joe nail enamel in The City Never Sleeps ($14) flies in and saves the day. It's a gorgeous, amped-up violet with glimmers of fuchsia, royal blue, and peach that's playful, but subtle enough to wear at work.

zoyaBeryl Nice
Dragonfly-wing green is such a gorgeous color, and it works well on just about every skin tone. There are several versions of this shade out there, but Zoya nail polish in Yara ($6) is particularly pretty and cheap, too.

nails incJem and the Holograms
Wave bye bye to chunky glitter, matte, and crackle coats, because holograms and chameleon-like shimmer are the hot new finishes in town. For party-in-a-bottle hologram polishes, try a shade like Nails Inc. Electric Lane Holographic Glitter Top Coat ($10). This one is great because it makes any regular nail color come alive when you layer it on top.

goldReaching Your Golds
And if you missed out on gorgeous flaky top coats a couple years ago, you're getting a second chance with topcoats like CND's new limited-edition gold-leaf effect, 24K Sparkle, which hits shelves later this month. The bottle makes it look like an unprepossessing gold glitter polish, but what's inside is one of the prettiest finishes of the year, with multisized and shaped gold flakes that overlay beautifully.

diorA Whole New World
Color-shifting shimmer is popping up in lots of luxe polishes like Dior Vernis in New World Purple ($22). It's the season's most fashionable hue, mixed up with a molten rose-gold shimmer for a gorgeous contrast that works with both warm and cool undertones. If this isn't your shade, check out the similar shimmer effect in Butter London lacquer in Knees Up ($14) or Chanel Le Vernis in Peridot ($25).

nail rockShe Has Great Jeans
Denim is going to be a big polish trend this month, inspired by Chanel's pricey new Les Jeans collection. The Chanel shades are great, but if we had to pick one way to wear the look, Nail Rock Denim Stitch Nail Wraps ($12) are way more distinctive and clever. Plus, a dollar from every pack sold goes to charity.

essieComing Through in the Clutch
Olive-khaki is poised to be the neutral hue of the season, and Essie polish in Power Clutch ($8) is a really wearable version that's not too dark or wintry to wear right now. This shade is a good choice if you're trying to scale down your color collection and need a versatile intermediate hue that has a fashion-forward element without being too faddish.

opiEating Out
Berry is a staple for flattering skin that has golden and peach undertones, and this season's take on the color is lighter and brighter than in years past. OPI polish in Color to Diner For ($6) is a great between-season shade that provides a nice relief from the dark, moody shades that typify Fall polish collections.

i love those colors I love nail polish, i change my nail color once a week, and because it is fall, those dark colors are good. Oh and I love the denim

I was waiting for you to say an OPI one :D

Hey Michelle, I would really love it if you did some "do it yourself" nail tutorials! Last night I did one online and it's called "newspaper nails". It's really cool. There's also water marbling, but these YouTubers don't really make the videos as clear as I'd like so I can't really see the details. I'd love to see your videos on it!

XOXO
