Most of these "remedies" are really bad for your skin. Toothpaste will not "dry out" a pimple, and it will actually lead to irritation and more redness. "But it doesn't irritate my skin!"--people argue. Irritation at levels low enough that you don't "feel" it can still cause damage. The more you irritate your skin now, the more likely you are to get wrinkles as you age. Tea tree oil, witch hazel, mentol, all of those things irritate the skin. Hydrogen peroxide is a terrible idea too. It will destroy the bacteria, but hydrogen peroxide generates free radicals. Free radicals also speed up the aging and wrinkling process. If the pimple is painful and red, GENTLE extraction will actually help reduce the inflammation, and allow your immune system to naturally take care of killing the bacteria. Gentle cleanser, appropriate acne medication (like salicylic acid), and antioxidant serum should help. If your acne is bad, visit a dermatologist. They know what they are doing. (I am a molecular biologist, and the scientific literature does not support any of these myths about skin care.) I love Michelle Phan, she is an excellent makeup artist!
